Playin' In The Streets is the story of the author' life. This novel is written in true form that takes us through the journey from Southern Texas to the streets of Southern California. We experience and even cringe at the many twists and turns and atrocities commitmed against him. This is not an easy book to read as it is filled with pain and suffering but as he experiences triumphs, you will find yourself rooting for him and praying for consistency.

This book was AWESOME!!!! Growing up in the same hood reading accounts that Dale went thru reminded me of "A Time That Was"
Many of those experience I remember and even though they were dangerous it was our way of life and all we knew. I lost many of friends and family to the streets of LA. I was fortunate that I had a STRONG mother to say enough was enough and move us 1/2 way across the country for a slow life and fighting chance. I'm grateful that Dale was able to get out the 90008 also. I was born and raised in Lemerit Park on the corner of Stocker and Norton. And when we moved after graduating from Audubon in 1989 we lived on the corner of Vernon and Harvard blvd across the street from the African Club. Dale Charles thank you for sharing your life and I look forward to your many life projects

Playin' in the Streets edition by Demetrias Charles Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The author gives great insights on how the lack of love in the home can lead one to such great lengths to receive it even at the cost of your freedom and even possibly your life. This was an eye opener that always left me in suspense as to what was going to happen next. So if you love action, drama, intrigue, and compassion - you will love this book!!
Left me wondering what happened next 😊
The author is painfully honest with his story, and it was definitely an eye opener for me. Coming from a priveleged background, the details of the author's abusive childhood were shocking and horrifying. However, I must commend his ability to put the reader in his corner. No matter our background, we all share the same basic desires as people- love, success, etc. Since "D" was not provided these things at home, he turned to the streets. This is a man who refused to become a product of his environment, and instead molded his environment to become a product of himself. This is the classic American underdog story, one that anybody can relate to. "D" does a fantastic job of not only entertaining the reader, but also inspiring. I am looking forward to the next chapter!

Demetrias Dale Charles penned a novel that was an education to me and assuaged some curiosities that have plagued me. Survival is it's main stay and on some of the most treacherous streets that exist. I, for one am glad he has survived and felt many close calls as I read them.

This story is not complete and I definitely hope Mr. Charles tells the rest as I am aware that he succeeded since he wrote the novel and is still here. I commend him on sharing his story in great detail and giving some a glimpse of the unknown and definitely misunderstood.
This is a great book about life and love. Playin in the streets lays it out what it is like to grow up in LA selling drugs and being in a gang. I cannot wait for his next book.
This book does an excellent job of ignoring cultural gaps. Even if you know nothing about the gang lifestyle, this book will still speak volumes. Every page is filled with emotion, and every story leads to the next in a way that makes it difficult to put the book down.

The book starts telling the story of the author's early childhood and extends all the way to the beginning of his adult life, and he holds little, if anything, back. The book gives a complete picture of this part his life, and you can really see the effects of a life lived with out love. You will often feel the author's pain, and enjoy his successes.

I can't wait for the next book.
